It's Nesso-sary

One day an Artemide Nesso lamp will be mine. Oh yes. It will be mine.

This is pretty informative if you want to read more about the iconic 1967 lamp by Giancarlo Mattioli for Gruppo Architetti Urbanisti Città Nuova. If you have a spare $360 you can buy one for yourself (or me) at Unica home.

Homes & Gardens UK edition

I'm loving the chic and moody pastel palette in these images from Homes and Gardens (UK) that Holly found over on decor8. I have a bit of magazine subscription overload so I'm glad there are people out there who will post highlights from issues that aren't on my reading list. Thanks Holly!

Fun with Bikes

I have gone on more bike rides in the last few weeks than I have in the last few years. I love it! My bike is an old men's Columbia vintage-y looking thing that I got on Craigslist awhile back. The breaks sound like a horn, the horn doesn't honk, and the gears won't shift. So now I've got new bike on the brain (don't worry... I'm not talking about some hard core fixed gear action. I'm talking cruiser that I can ride to the Farmers Market). Browsing Fashion Nation, I came across the UK company Bobbin Bicycles. They have some seriously amazing bikes (and some great styling in their model shots).
Some classic Dutch styling in fun pastel colors.

This little yellow guy has tulips painted on it. Very countryside chic.

Alexander Girard images on bikes. Shut the front door!!! That white Tree of Life one is too cute!!
Now if only I had £640 and LA was a more bike friendly city...

Listen up LA ladies...

According to Blackburn and Sweetzer, Scott and Garance will be in town signing copies of Scott's new fashion tome on October 22 from 8pm - 10pm (yay!) at the Beverly Center (boo!). I make conscious efforts to avoid the Beverly Center but I guess I can make an exception. Now what should I wear...

Tick tock

I just planted some cute pansies in my window boxes last week (the zinnias didn't last long... stupid squirrels digging in my flowers). How cute is this pansy clock? It even has a bee on the second hand... and I don't have to water this one!

Evidence-Based Critique on America's Healthcare System

I know this is a little outside my usual scope of topics but it is a large part of the country's dialogue these days. Here is a video of my father, Dr. Jeoffry Gordon, critiquing America's health care system for it's waste, bureaucratic overheads, and inability to provide coverage to millions of people. His presentation is a bit technical, but he makes a lot of amazing points. My father has been a practicing physician for over 25 years and knows all too well the human suffering that takes place because people have no access to health insurance. Please watch this and join the dialogue.

On the Street....The Coolest, NYC

Scott snapped this pic in NYC and calls these ladies The Coolest. I'm sure he's talking about the one on left in the green darty pants (I can't really get into the MC Hammer pant thing. Seriously, why would you want to make your hips look wider?). All I can focus on is those black studded ankle booties on the right. Where do I find them??? I want to go to there!!

DIY headboard

This DIY headboard is BANANAS! Taking a cue from an old Cookie spread, Grace decided to put her hands to work and make her own upholstered Otomi headboard for around $300. BANANAS!!

The final product.

The original inspiration

A video with step by step instructions.

For full instructions, click here. I can't wait to do this with some amazing Suzani fabric. These instructions make the whole project way less intimidating. Thanks Grace!

I've had the time of my life

A large part of my childhood was spent squealing with other prepubescent girls, wishing that I was Baby in Dirty Dancing. RIP Patrick Swayze. You will be missed.

Ikat crazy

Some people may have moved on from this trend, but not me. I love me some ikat prints.
Many moons ago Grace over at Design*Sponge did an Ikat round up. The above is a small sampling. Click here for more goodies.

I don't have room for any more furniture in my apartment, so somebody please buy this love seat so I can live vicariously through you. Studio Sofa by Nate Berkus for HSN (I know! HSN. I did a double take too). $499

Color palette inspiration found over at Coco+Kelley. I agree with her when she says "I have always loved this shot of Keira Knightley (and I'm not really a huge fan of hers) because I adore the mix of styles here - preppy safari meets bohemian." Such a fun spin on a primary color palette.

Madeline Weinrib. She can do no wrong (except for her ridiculous prices). Le sigh...
